Wind Shroud
Encasing the measurement devices and the MSD is a robust circular wind shroud that protects the these components from elements such as wind, road debris, and sun light.
Why do the sensors need to be protected from the wind?
The laser has been calibrated at a specific temperature. Through the use of the laser's built-in internal heater and by protecting it from wind, the unit can maintain its optimal temperature.
Why protect the sensors from road debris and sunlight?
The roadways are unlike a laboratory setting where the measurement devices are protected from the elements.
- Due to the laser's collection lens, it must be exposed to minimal direct sunlight. To allow for extended mid-day testing hours the wind shroud has been designed to shade the lens without interfering with measurements taken on crowned or super-elevated roadways.
- A significant threat facing any instrument mounted on the outside of a vehicle is road debris, especially puddles. The CM-3000™ has been designed to be splash resistant. Although it is highly recommended to avoid situations in which the unit is going to see moisture, the shroud was designed to protect the measurement devices from the unavoidable situations, such as median water runoff, pothole puddles, intermittent drizzles, etc. The remnants of the CM-3000™ being splashed can be seen in this picture. Without the shroud, the ultrasonic sensor could have sustained possible damage.

Universal Bumper Mount
The universal bumper mount has been designed for both front and rear, driver or passenger side vehicle mounting. Since most inspection vehicles are equipped with a standard Class III (2in) receiver hitch and power hookup, the CM-3000™ can be mounted with ease using the supplied custom trailer hitch. This custom hitch along with different combinations of height shims (included) allow the CM-3000™ to be used with any vehicle outfitted with a Class III receiver hitch. Alternatively, with a few simple modifications to the testing vehicle, the unit can be mounted to the front bumper.
